You may also find:

-Yardlong Beans
-Kale Mix

This season has had its ups and downs, but all-in-all I think it's been a pretty good one. It's hard to believe we just wrapped up the second season at the Drennon farm. But I guess they say time flies when you're having fun, right?
Cushaw Pie
Ingredients:
-1 cushaw squash
-1/4 cup heavy cream
-2 large eggs
-1 cup sugar
-1 Tbsp all-purpose flour
-1/4 Tbsp salt
-1 Tsp nutmeg
-1/4 Tsp ground allspice
-1/2 Tsp lemon extract
-2 Tbsp unsalted butter, melted
-1 (9-inch) unbaked pie shell
Directions:
-Preheat oven to 350.
-Slice off the neck of the squash, peel and cut into large chunks. Slice the bottom half vertically and scoop out the seeds, then cut into large chunks. Spread evenly in a baking dish and bake until tender. Alternatively, they can be steamed on the stove. (six of one, half a dozen of another.)
-Once cooled, drain of any excess liquid, then puree in a food processor or blender until smooth.
-Stir together 2 1/2 cups of the puree with the heavy cream and eggs. Add all other ingredients and combine well.
-Pour mixture into the pie shell. Increase oven temp to 450 and bake for 10-15 minutes. Reduce heat to 350 and continue to bake for 40 more minutes.
-When pie is set, remove and cool on a wire rack.

I have some exciting news for next season's CSA. The 2023 season will be fully customizable!! Crops that you hate? You'll never get them. Did the size not suit your needs? Choose a custom size with standardized item sizes. Rather have a different frequency? Choose from weekly, bi-weekly, tri-weekly, or monthly.
Right now I'm thinking of making the sizes
4 items, 6 items, or 9 items, but I'm not sure on that quite yet. I'll have another blog post in the next couple weeks outlining the details.
The only kicker is- you will have to sign up by the end of February so I can plan accordingly with my crop schedule. When you sign up, you'll take a survey of the crops to be grown, and how frequent you'd like those veggies in your basket. It will be a more detailed version of the veggie preference form you filled out at the beginning of this season, because I'll be breaking it down by varieties.
I added the chart that I created for the item size equivalencies so you can get an idea of how much produce you might get with each item size.
If you have any thoughts for next year's CSA, please shoot me a message because after all, I do this for y'all! You can always email me, text, or call me. I think you all have my number but just in case, it's 502-648-7117 and my email is misfit.montaynna@gmail.com.

My greenhouse's resident praying mantis, Larry, wishes you all a happy off-season and hopes to see you in the spring! He specifically requested to be in the blog this week.
I want to thank each and every one of you for joining me this season and supporting our farming endeavor. It's been a privilege to put food on your table, and I hope to see you all next season!
