CSA Week 11

Happy Thursday, Misfit Members! Here's what you'll find in your box this week:


-Tomatoes:

-Orange, Purple, Pink, and Red Slicers

-Romas

-Cherries- Sun Gold, Chocolate Cherry

-Peppers:

-Green & Purple Bell

-Cubanelle, Jalapeno, and Sweet Snax

-Red Pontiac Potatoes

-Sweet Corn

-Sugar Baby Watermelon or Cantaloupe

-Onion


**If you received a watermelon- these are literally the smallest watermelons I've ever grown, and I have no idea why they ripened so small but they have all been good so far! Bigger melons are coming in the next week or two.


Mexican Street Corn


Ingredients:

-4 ears of sweet corn

-1/4 cup mayo

-1/ cup sour cream

-1/2 cup cotija cheese, crumbled

-Fine sea salt to taste

-1 tsp chili powder

-2 tsp garlic powder

-Juice and zest of 1 lime

-Fresh cilantro, chopped


Directions:

-Heat grill to 400.

-Grill the corn for 10-12 minutes, turning occasionally.

-Mix the sauce by combining mayo, sour cream, salt, garlic powder, lime juice & zest in a bowl.

-Generously spread the mixture on the corn, then sprinkle with the cheese, chili powder, and cilantro.


We had a bit of an issue with the sweet corn this week. The big rainstorms we had at the start of the week caused the creek to get up and jump the bank into the corn field. It was only a foot or less high, but I didn't want to take a chance on losing the crop if it rained again, so I pulled up my muck boots and got to picking!

Thankfully the water receded in the next day or two, but I didn't want to take a chance!
