The start of the CSA season is sneaking up on us! I've been so busy with panting season that I haven't taken the time to catch all of our Misfit Members and friends up on the farm happenings. We've been busy in the off season this year, building a brand new 20'x28' greenhouse, finishing our barn to move the chickens and animals to the new farm, and finishing out the packing shed.
We have over 3000 plants in the ground so far, with the rest of the first round going in this week. So far, we have tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, garlic, onions, several lettuces, 3 types of kale, pak choi, cabbage, kohlrabi, swiss chard, potatoes, sweet potatoes, cucumber, zucchini, yellow squash, and patty pan squash. The first round of sweet corn is also starting to emerge, as well as green beans, peas, radishes, and carrots. Still to be planted this week are watermelon, cantaloupe, various herbs, more cabbage and lettuce, popcorn, yardlong beans, luffa squash, beets, turnips, and collard greens.
CSA signups are still open for the 2022 season! Prices are as follows:
Full Share: $369
Bi-Weekly Share: $283
Mini Share: $189
Egg Share: $59 weekly / $32 bi-weekly
The first delivery for weekly shares is May 26th, first delivery for bi-weekly shares is June 2nd.

Unfortunately, the farm experienced a loss this past month. Odin, one of my Great Pyrenees livestock guardian dogs, lost a three-month long battle with Lyme's Disease and Autoimmune Disease. His sister Luna and I are still grieving, and his absence on the farm is hard to get used to. We fought it as long as we could, until Odin told us he was done. I'm incredibly grateful to our vets that treated him, and came out to the farm when it was time to let him go. Even though he had a job protecting the chickens, he was still just as much my baby as our rotten basset hound that lives in the house. I only got 4 years with him, but I just consider myself lucky for those years, and lucky that I still have Luna.

The chickens have their new coop setup inside the new hoop barn, complete with collapsible roost poles, an automatic door that opens and closes automatically with daylight hours, and nest boxes of all sizes.
The coop is technically a building inside a building. We built it inside the barn that also houses the horses, donkeys, and Luna. They all have their own area, but having them centrally located makes feeding time so much easier!
Check out a few pics of what we have going on so far this spring, and don't forget to sign up as soon as you can to secure your spot for the 2022 CSA!
