Hello Misfits! Spring is springing, so I wanted to give everyone an update on where things stand at the farm regarding the CSA.

I'm sure by now you've assumed that the CSA is again not happening. Unfortunately, we had some major damage during the winter storms back in January. I lost my high tunnel, which is where I grew a majority of the crops for the CSA. Without it, unfortunately, the season won't be possible. I'm so sorry to have to go back on my promise to be back this year, but the tunnel is crucial to my operation. We will be putting one back up, but it won't be until the fall.

As you can see, it's going to be a big job to dismantle, and an even bigger job to get a new one put up. I think the structure was weakened by the move from my family's farm to our farm, and from the windstorm that wrenched it out of whack in 2023.

After that storm, we had not one, but two floods this winter and spring, with the second one reaching historic levels. Thankfully it did not reach any of the houses on the farm, but several of our neighbors were not as lucky. As you can see below, we were pretty much stuck at home for a week, and could only get out on foot. (Our house is the one on the far left).

We did get out and check on things in the kayaks on the day it crested. Gotta do what you gotta do!

Okay. So I've been holding out on you. There's actually one large reason the season didn't get started, and it's because I'm growing something else besides vegetables..

I'm growing an extra farm hand! But y'all, the first trimester hit me like a train, and the timing was literally when I needed to be sowing the greenhouse and prepping everything. I was going to try to grow everything outside even though I lost the tunnel and just shorten the season... but then I realized I was pregnant. I was still going for it until that nausea and fatigue set in. Lawwwwwd have mercy I knew there was no way.

So I hope y'all aren't too disappointed, but growing this feral farm boy is taking it out of me! And there's the deal I made with my husband to let him do the physical labor of the farm work, so that pretty much puts me out of commission. Give me one more season and I'll be back! I miss the CSA something terrible, and all of the Misfit Family!
